Unfortunately for Hayek, though, that sense of solidarity among other women was accompanied by a sense of personal shame, as she toldOprah Winfrey on the Oprah's SuperSoul Conversations podcast in NY on Wednesday, in what was at first meant to be a conversation about the #MeToo movement at large.
Hayek Pinault explained to Winfrey why she had not been part of the Times' initial wave of allegations against Weinstein, and published her essay two months after the story first broke.
"When the information about Harvey came out, I was ashamed I didn't say anything", Hayek told Oprah. "I started crying because (I had PTSD) (post-traumatic stress disorder). When it came out, then I was ashamed that I didn't speak up", she expressed.
"I was on set with Reese Witherspoon, who has since spoken out. and some other actresses, who haven't spoken out, so I won't say who they were, and this was like two days after the Harvey scandal had broken in The New York Times", Winfrey said.
Eventually, however, Hayek penned an op-ed in December for the New York Times where she detailed Weinstein's alleged continual harassment, which began after Weinstein's former company Miramax produced "Frida", Hayek's 2002 film about famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, which she produced and starred in.

She told Oprah that during the five-year making and releasing of Frida, "He told me he wanted to kill me". I don't want us to go from victims to angry. The abuse of being constantly underminded because we're women.
Hayek stands by her story and shared advice for women who have been in similar situations. "I thought, 'There's no point for me to talk because it happens to everyone". "You have to be attractive but you cannot be too attractive because then you are telling me that I can do whatever I want with you.' What the f*ck is with you?"
She added: 'It's important to take responsibility for the things we do to others, but we must stop apologizing for being attacked and we must move into a place where you can actually have a conversation.
She added, "All these efforts of every single one of you, they pile up until there is an explosion".
"Mr. Weinstein regards Salma Hayek as a first-class actress and cast her in several of his movies, among them "Once Upon a Time in Mexico, ' 'Dogma, ' and 'Studio 54, '" the statement continued".
