In the wake of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's (MQM-P) Rabita Committee's decision to oust Farooq Sattar from the position of its convener on Sunday, Sattar called a general workers' meeting at PIB to announce dissolving the committee, as well as, calling for holding fresh intra-party polls on February 17, to determine the new leader of the party. His aides had established that it was not the matter of Senate elections but it was the issue of taking over the party, he added. "I am hopeful that we will resolve the issue", he said. He is no more MQM-P convener.
The latest episode of infighting between two factions of the party started over the issue of distribution of party tickets for next month's Senate elections, with the Bahadurabad group opposing Sattar's nomination of relative newcomer Kamran Tessori over seasoned party leader.
"The Rabita Committee has made a decision to remove Dr Farooq Sattar as the party's convener", senior party leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel had announced in a press conference on Sunday evening.
Following the decision of party's Rabita Committee to sack him, Dr Sattar told journalists in a presser that "they haven't [just] sacked me - they have deprived every deserving worker of the party of their due right. He had time for NGOs but not for the party", he said pointing towards delaying in renewal of party registration that led to its cancellation.
Apparently hinting at implementing the minus-one formula, MQM leader Faisal Subzwari told reporters after the meeting that the party was not against Dr Sattar, but "we will not accept" his directive if it was in direct conflict with the party's principles.
In a quick response, Farooq Sattar talking to media persons said the conspiracy had been exposed.
Announcing that the party had delegated the power to give tickets to Dr Siddiqui, he said it was beyond anyone's understanding as to why Dr Sattar was giving so much importance to jeweller-turned-politician Kamran Tessori.
A total of 17 nomination forms were submitted by the two groups within the MQP-P.
Mr Khan recalled that he had ignored the murder of his 28-year-old "son", who was killed because of "this [in] fighting", and rejoined the MQM while apologising for his past actions in the presence of 5,000 people just for the sake of the party's unity.
Farooq Sattar said he also had a "charge sheet" against the coordination committee members.
