Stephen Hawking's ashes will be interred next to the grave of Sir Isaac Newton at Westminster Abbey, it has been confirmed. Other world famous scientists that are buried nearby are Ernest Rutherford (1937) and Joseph John Thomson (1940).

A private funeral service will take place at Great St Mary's, the University Church on 31 March, Prof Hawking's family said.

Hawking when diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 1963, was expected to live for no more than two years, but overcoming all odds, lived till 2018.

Rather more controversially, he added: "We believe it to be vital that science and religion work together to seek to answer the great questions of the mystery of life and of the universe".

English physicist Sir Isaac Newton, who formulated the law of universal gravitation, was buried in the same place in 1727.

Professor Hawking, who defied a debilitating disease to become one of the greatest scientists, died at his home in Cambridge last week aged 76.

After two years of failing to disclose the harvesting, Facebook said Monday that it hired an outside firm to audit Cambridge. Then researchers could begin to determine how this data was used to target people.

The statement says "Our father lived and worked in Cambridge for over 50 years".

Following Professor Hawking 's death, Cambridge University described the PhD alumnus as "an inspiration to millions".

While a date for the thanksgiving ceremony at the Abbey is yet to be decided, the funeral date has been confirmed as March 31.

The service will be both inclusive and traditional, reflecting the diversity of Professor Hawking's life.

According to the Resource Center, the Westminster Abbey, where 17 monarchs and some of the most important personalities of British history are resting, announced that later this year, a Thanksgiving Divine Liturgy will be held during which Hawking's ash will be buried. Hawking did his graduate work at Cambridge and was based at the university for decades thereafter.

"Errol Morris turns his camera on one of the most fascinating men in the world: the pioneering astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, afflicted by a debilitating motor neuron disease that has left him without a voice or the use of his limbs". Upon his death, many scientists and personalities gathered to pay condolences and paid tribute to him.
