Pakistan is facing the heat globally for its complicity with terrorist organisations targeting India and Afghanistan.

Pakistan High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood today said that he has discussed the issue of alleged harassment of diplomats with his government and that they want to sort it out "as soon as possible".

Mahmood, who came back to India on Thursday, nearly a week after he was called back home for consultations amid an war of words over the harassment of Indian diplomats in Pakistan and Pakistani diplomats in India, said such issues affect the relation between the two countries. Mr Mahmood's speech was rather conciliatory and sober in content and contained none of the aggression that one saw in the speeches of his predecessor Abdul Basit.

"In the context of foreign relations especially in South Asia, Pakistan continues to follow the policy of peaceful neighbourhood and in that context, Pakistan has sought peaceful and good neighbourly relations with all countries in South Asia including India", he said.

Contrary to this negative and hostile attitude of India, it is a matter of record that only in February 2018 Pakistan had made all arrangements to facilitate the visit of 173 Indian pilgrims who wanted to visit Katas Raj near Jhelum who were, however, forced to withdraw their applications from Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

"Asian countries", he said, adding therefore, Islamabad has sought for a good and peaceful relation with India.

He also stated that the issue of Kashmir can only be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and wishes of the people of Kashmir. "Peace, security, stability and prosperity in south Asia could only be promoted on the principle of peaceful co-existence".

Mahmood also spoke about Pakistan's "achievements" in deepening democratic culture, accelerating economic development and effectively addressing challenges related to extremism and terrorism through successful anti-terror operations.
