"When we started Google Images, we focused on making it easy to find photos and images from across the web".

Mobile-first indexing means Google will use the mobile version of a web page "for indexing and ranking, to better help our - primarily mobile - users find what they're looking for", the company writes in a blog post.

Announcing the acquisition, CEO David McIntosh said in a blog post on the Tenor website, "Today, we're announcing Tenor has been acquired by Google to help us execute on our mission to help all three billion mobile users find the flawless way to visually express themselves". With keyboard apps for several platforms, Tenor is also notable for being a GIF platform that powers the likes of Gboard and Facebook. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Google recognizes how much we use animated images to communicate, and wants to make it easier to find the flawless one to match your mood, as well as assert its position as the leader in search. Recognising the growing relevance of the GIF, search giant Google yesterday announced that it is acquiring Tenor, one of the world's largest online GIF search engines and databases. Pages that get into mobile-first indexing will see more traffic from that Googlebot as it continually checks to ensure that the content and layout of the page is still compliant with mobile-friendly standards.

With today's announcement, things won't change either, and Google once again reaffirmed that it has no plans to split its search engine into two separate systems to cater for the two divergent userbases.

Also, the non-core real estate will be sold off to repay the debt that remains on the books of the holding company. He added that the government hopes to complete the divestment exercise in the current government's term.

Google agreed to buy Tenor, a four-year old startup that helps advertisers run mobile ad campaigns that feature GIFs, or short video clips that run on a loop, per a blog post. The GIF keyboard on iOS has surpassed 300 million users in 2017.

Tenor is arguably the best GIF search portal in the market right now, with a GIF for just about every occasion.

Till now, Tenor has raised $32 million in funding, according to available data.
