Minnesota mom's DUI arrest is 'one of the worst'

Tasha L. Schleicher An open bottle of Crown Royal Liquor was found in the passenger seat of Schleicher's car
Steven Clarke | 06 April, 2018, 06:57

An open bottle of Crown Royal was also spotted in the front passenger's seat.

Schleicher wasn't wearing shoes, and when she stepped out of the vehicle her clothes were "literally falling off", police said in a news release.

Police say Schleicher told officers she had 11 children and couldn't find them.

Sanchez still had shards of glass in her hair when she was taken into custody, and recorded a blood-alcohol content of between.18 and.19 percent - well above the legal limit of.08 - two hours after the collision, according to Deputy District Attorney Robert Bruce. Tasha Lynn Schleicher, 41, of New Hope, Minn., is facing several charges, including two counts of felony aggravated drunk driving, two counts of misdemeanor drunk driving, no vehicle insurance, driving while license revoked (for DUI), and transportation of open alcohol while driving. While the latest arrest came in IL, she has also been arrested before in Kentucky, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota and California. When she was arrested in a state, she would just not show up in court unless she was held in custody. The earliest arrest was in Kentucky in 2007, police said.

According to the release, Schleicher has 11 prior arrests, six of which are for driving under the influence, but all of which are DUI-related.

It takes a lot to be labeled one of the worst drunk drivers in America, but it seems Schleicher has reached the threshold required, given the police response and given that she had been arrested as many times as she has kids.

She had apparently tried to fill her gas tank with kerosene instead of gasoline, which can cause a car's engine to smoke, or even catch fire. Still, Schleicher insisted she had her children with her, police said. Police found she was lying, according to WLS-TV. They were all returned to her in August 2017. Witnesses said she was the only one in the auto when she arrived. She lied about her name, date of birthdate, Social Security number, and also lied about being pregnant, police said.

Alcohol that police say they discovered in the front passenger seat of Schleicher's vehicle on April 2.

Police in Riverside, Illinois, arrested a Minnesota woman the village's police chief called "one of the worst DUI offenders in the United States" in a press release Monday night. Schneider was also wanted on three out-of-state warrants in Nebraska, Idaho and OR, court records show. Officers are working with CPS in Minnesota to find that child. Officers contacted authorities in New Hope to verify that the children were not in IL. Riverside cops found that at least 11 of her kids had been taken away by the state of Minnesota, according to the station.

Schleicher also told officers at the scene that she was pregnant, bleeding and having a miscarriage.
