The prime minister also invited the Afghan president for an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The statement said information about the ongoing "operations is shared with the Afghan security forces on a regular basis".

PM Abbasi will also hold talks with Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and other senior officials in the Afghan capital on Friday said Foreign Office Spokesperson Muhammad Faisal.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani received Shahid Khaqan from the airport. He said an Afghan-led peace process was the only way to stability in the Country, and Pakistan was ready for cooperation in that respect.

Pakistan said it aspires to deepen people to people contacts. The two sides are also engaged in undertaking major bilateral rail-road connectivity projects.

"The Prime Minister's visit to Afghanistan is aimed at strengthening the positive momentum in bilateral relations and help augment joint endeavours in the pursuit of durable peace, stability and economic prosperity in the two countries, and the region", it said.

To promote regional economic integration, the two countries are participating in key trans-regional initiatives namely Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and Central Asia - South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA-1000).

PM Abbasi was welcomed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and the two inspected an honor guard at the Presidential Palace in Kabul before heading in for meetings.

The two sides conferred on initiating work on the Quetta-Kandahar and Peshawar-Jalalabad railway lines, as well as the Peshawar-Jalalabad-Kabul highway.

Abbasi will be seeking to lessen mistrust with Afghanistan, whose leadership has repeatedly held Pakistan responsible for allegedly offering safe haven to leaders of the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani Network.

Pakistan had brokered the first round of direct talks between the fragile Afghan government and Taliban in Islamabad in July 2015.

Afghanistan on Thursday accused Pakistan of air strikes causing "huge financial damages" in its province of Kunar bordering Pakistan, highlighting long-standing mistrust between the neighbours, even as both seek ways to improve security. Islamabad rejected the reports and advised Kabul to "refrain from blame game".

The two leaders agreed that the APAPPS would provide a useful framework for broad based and structured engagement on all issues of mutual interest and chose to operationalize the five working groups under APAPPS.
