Police officers were called to reports of gunshots on Cooks Road in Southwark at 6.05pm on Saturday.

She named her son, 17, as Rhyiam Ainsworth Barton. "He's got so much potential".

Tearfully, she said he had been "trying to make a difference" by learning to work with children. "My son's a good boy", she added, as she stood by a wall where Rhyhiem's provisional driving licence, a little bag of his baby teeth, and a photo of her feeding him when he was a baby were placed. "The police are the ones putting us in danger".

London's Metropolitan Police said the pair were taken to hospitals after officers found them within minutes of each other nursing gunshot wounds at separate nearby locations in the suburb of Harrow.

"Officers, including firearms officers, attended".

An investigation has been launched into the incident by officers from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said his thoughts go out to the "loved ones of the teenager who was tragically killed".

There have not yet been arrests.
