A 25-year-old basketball-loving man from Texas was arrested this past Friday, accused of posing as a student in order to play hoops at a Dallas high school.

Gilstrap-Portley, who has since posted bond, allegedly dated a 14-year-old classmate during his time at Hillcrest High School. Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley claimed to be a Hurricane Harvey refugee when he enrolled as Rashun Richardson at Skyline High School.

But Gilstrap-Portley - who enrolled under the name Rashun Richardson - was finally exposed when a basketball coach from his old high school recognized him at a tournament, and told his current teacher his real age. "It's unbelievable to me that he could get away with this", the woman said.

School officials believe the alleged con-artists main motivation was to play basketball, with Dallas ISD Superintendent Dr Michael Hinojosa forced to apologize for the blunder.

"This school year our district welcomed evacuees displaced by Hurricane Harvey".

The district tells WFAA students who've been through a natural disaster or are homeless aren't asked for the same documentation that's typically required, per federal law. He was charged with tampering of government records and has since been released. Gilstrap-Portley may have scammed his way in with just immunization and physical records, a district rep says.

He reportedly scored 17 points in Hillcrest's first-round playoff loss this spring. It was revealed that he was an imposter when his former basketball coach recently saw him playing for a high school team, the source said. Sidney hadn't shown up to class since April 25 and was just booked into the Dallas County Jail on Friday.

Gilstrap-Portley graduated from North Mesquite High School in 2011, a source told WFAA.

"We have some liberal policies for homeless students, but he knew that".

Hillcrest principal Chris Bayer sent a letter to students and parents on Tuesday that said the school immediately notified the district and local authorities once it "became aware of a student enrolled at our school under false pretenses claiming to be a displaced Hurricane Harvey victim".
