Fairfield father of 10 accused of child abuse: 'I'm the Indiana Jones of spirituality'

Ten children have been removed from a home in Fairfield, California, where police say they were tortured, burned, beaten and even shot with a pellet gun while living amid squalor and abuse of all kinds.
Questions remain as to how the children and the alleged abuse went undetected for years until March 31, when police responding to a missing juvenile report entered the house in suburban Fairfield, California, about 46 miles (74 kilometers) northeast of San Francisco.
The boy was eventually found sleeping under a bush in a neighbor's yard, police said. None of the children required medical care. Solano County prosecutors included the horrific details in a motion to increase the bail for Rogers, who was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse.
A California woman denies her husband abused their 10 children, who were removed from the home after authorities said the kids suffered puncture wounds, burns and other injuries.
The stories of abuse came out gradually over the past six weeks.
The ongoing abuse, said to be committed against nine of the youths, dates back to 2014, Henry said.
Ina Rogers is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Sharon Henry, chief deputy district attorney for Solano County, disagrees. "Based upon what the children stated in their interviews, we believe torture occurred in this house".
Rogers could not be reached Monday evening for comments.
Solano County court records show that Allen was charged with four felonies in 2011, including corporal injury, assault with a firearm and criminal threats in a case involving his wife, identified by her initials, I.R. She was released on April 9 after posting a $10,000 bail. She said she and her husband both came from broken homes and wanted a large family, according to the AP. They now live with Rogers' sister and at her mother's house in Antioch. The children, authorities said, were home-schooled.
She told NBC: "Jonathan worships the devil". Allen, a year younger than Rogers, is the father of eight of the children, she said.
Rogers said the children slept in one bedroom because they were close; cots were stored in a bedroom closet. Neighbors said the grandmother is very loving, taking the children to school and on errands since both parents are in jail.
Rogers was taken into custody after the hearing.
She led reporters through the house, which the AP reported still looked squalid behind the cream-colored, hedge-lined exterior: animal droppings littered the bathroom, and scuff marks still covered some walls.
Rogers says she home-schooled the children, but the Fairfield home was not registered as a private school and neither were three prior addresses in Fairfield and Vallejo, according to the California Department of Education.
Peggy Allen, the mother of Jonathan Allen, said she had talked to Rogers about the importance of keeping a clean house.
He said Rogers approached him at the end of March about her missing son as Magney was coming home from church.
The children were "huddled together on the living room floor".
"The charges are serious and we'll be looking at them closely", Najera said. She said that they had a baby when they first moved in and another baby late previous year. Just two days ago, in an interview, Rogers blamed her mother for the allegations.
"There's no broken bones, there is no major scars, nothing", Rogers said.
