The meeting at the ICC comes after more than 60 Palestinians protesting the U.S. decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city of Jerusalem were killed by Israeli fire last week.

The statement says that "Israel expects the ICC and its prosecutor not to yield to Palestinian pressure, and stand firm against continued Palestinian efforts to politicize the court and to derail it from its mandate".

Here is a closer look at the Palestinian move and its implications.

Peace negotiations have been frozen for years while Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, has rejected Washington's traditional role as a mediator after Donald Trump declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel. The Palestinians believe the step undercuts their own claims to east Jerusalem.

US officials have promised to unveil a long-awaited peace proposal in the coming weeks. But the Palestinians have already said they will not accept the U.S.as a mediator.

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah criticized the United States for becoming "part of the problem and not the solution" with its Jerusalem move. This upgraded status has allowed the Palestinians to join dozens of global institutions, including the ICC.

The Israeli response reflected Israel's strong opposition to the court's potential entanglement in the protracted Israeli-Palestinian dispute and the possibility that Israeli leaders could be indicted - even if by a court they do not recognize.

The State of Palestine formally became a member of the ICC in April 2015, giving the court jurisdiction over crimes committed in the territory since June 13, 2014 - including the 2014 Israeli assault on Gaza. However, the court has not opened a full-blown investigation that could ultimately lead to indictments.

Goodell wants uniform standards for sports betting
It's a rip-off and hopefully state legislatures won't go for it, but that's what the leagues want. That means betting on sports, including American football, could be made legal across all states.

During his stay in The Hague, Maliki is expected to meet with ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and discuss with her the PA's request to investigate Israeli officials.

The Palestinians have long objected to the settlements - accusing Israel of gobbling up their land to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Israel has been building settler units across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem (al-Quds), since 1967, when it occupied the territory during an all-out war.

Worldwide law prohibits the transfer of civilian populations to occupied territories, and the global community overwhelmingly views the settlements as illegal.

Omar Shakir, the Israel-Palestine director at New York-based Human Rights Watch, said "without accountability, bloodshed will continue".

The Palestinians, 10 in all, fled back through the fence into Gaza after the Tuesday morning attack on the outpost used by snipers during the March of Return border protests.

The global community does not legally recognise any of se settlements, irrespective of qualification granted to m by Hebrew state. "It is a charitable foundation that provides grants to organisations working with Palestinian refugee children living in refugee camps in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank and Gaza".
