The U.S. Justice Department will appeal a ruling that prohibits President Trump from blocking people on Twitter who disagree or criticize him, according to court documents filed Monday.

"It would send the First Amendment deep into uncharted waters to hold that a president's choices about whom to follow, and whom to block, on Twitter - a privately run website that, as a central feature of its social-media platform, enables all users to block particular individuals from viewing posts - violate the Constitution", Michael Baer wrote in August 2017.

Trump regularly conducts government business on Twitter - it is where he announces his agenda, policy changes and more.

US District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald ruled on May 23 that public officials may not block people from their Twitter accounts because of their expressed political views, including the president himself.

The White House and the Justice Department didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

Model Chrissy Teigen tweeted that she is still blocked by the president. VoteVets is also still blocked by Trump, the progressive veterans organization tweeted Monday.

The plaintiffs include Philip Cohen, a sociology professor at the University of Maryland, and Brandon Neely, a Texas police officer. We complained. We sued. We won our First Amendment lawsuit in federal court.

The lawsuit was filed after Trump blocked users from @realDonaldTrump, a 9-year-old Twitter account with over 50 million followers.

What's next: More taxpayer dollars will be spent as the Department of Justice rallies its lawyers in defense of the president of the United States of America's right to deny citizens access to his most used public forum.

The seven people who sued President Donald Trump for blocking them on Twitter are now unblocked, and they're wasting no time tweeting at him.
