The east Pacific hurricane season, which starts on May 15 each year, has its first official hurricane. Hurricane Aletta, which formed early Wednesday, achieved hurricane status on Thursday afternoon, after its sustained winds climbed to 120 km/h.

Aletta is located about 500 miles west of Mexico's west coast and is moving even farther away from land over the Pacific Ocean. Fortunately for Mexicans and travellers alike, the storm's track keeps it well offshore throughout its life cycle.

Aletta, the first tropical storm of the 2018 season in the Eastern Pacific Basin, is now moving west at around 7 miles per hour and will not be a threat to any land. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour (75 kph) and was moving west at 8 miles per hour (13 kph).

Also, the outer casing looks more refined thanks to the new gloss black shade instead of matte black found on the older model. Jeep is also expected to launch a turbocharged diesel engine in specific worldwide markets as well.

Forecasters expect the storm to make a turn toward the northwest over the weekend before a westerly turn Sunday or Monday.

To the southeast of Aletta, another area of disturbed weather is forecast to become a tropical depression or storm in the next 48 hours. The average day for the first hurricane to form in the Eastern Pacific is June 26, although hurricanes are not unheard of before that date.

If it becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Bud.
