While the majority of people are very happy to see Michael Myers back on the big screen after almost a decade-long absence, this new movie is going to be taking some serious liberties with the franchise.
Despite being the eleventh instalment in the franchise, the film will disregard the continuity of the previous sequels and will instead pick up 40 years after events of the original film.
Curtis' character was unceremoniously killed off in Halloween: Resurrection in 2002, but in true Halloween franchise fashion, it would appear that the new Halloween film will be ignoring the continuity of numerous sequels in favor of telling its own story.
Horror-master John Carpenter is on-board as executive producer and is joined by lead producer Jason Blum (Get Out and The Purge). The first trailer for this film was released today that features the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner and Nick Castle. At the helm of this new Halloween is filmmaker David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness, Prince Avalanche, Joe, Stronger), who co-wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride.
In the same interview, director David Gordon Green explained what Michael will be like this time around. "The fans are going to love all the homages they put in the film, there are just so many little Easter Eggs and you know, just kind of touches to the original".
