The Ivory Coast midfielder suggested the City manager - who was also his boss at Barcelona - might have treated him less favourably because he is African.

Guardiola has since come out to hit back at Toure's claims.

Toure made 17 appearances for City in all competitions last season before being released, while Guardiola was handed a new contract with the club until 2021.

"My time there as a coach is finished because I'm not the same as I was then, nor is the way they see me the same", Guardiola told TV3. "We were together for two years, and he says it now-he never told me to my face".

How will Yaya Toure be remembered at Manchester City?

Imperious Nadal downs Thiem to claim 11th French Open crown
Key in that regard was his backhand, which consistently flustered Thiem, who didn't have the same bag of tricks at his disposal. Sunday's championship victory was as convincing and efficient a Grand Slam title as nearly any other in Nadal's epic career.

That, of course, opens the door to a potential cross-city move for Toure, who could join United and work under Jose Mourinho.

At Barcelona, the duo won the UEFA Champions League in 2009, with Toure impressing in the final. Similar success followed at Bayern Munich before the 47-year-old guided Manchester City to Premier League and EFL Cup glory this term, but his time on the field and in the dugout for Barca means Guardiola remains inextricably linked to his boyhood club. "He is one of the most important players in the whole history".

The Spaniard will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches to ever grace the Nou Camp dugout after his four trophy-laden years at the Catalan outfit.
