In 2015, the leaders of China and Taiwan held historic talks in the city-state - their first in more than 60 years.
PM Lee also said Singapore has "made sure to see to the details and the big picture", citing how the Home Team has found Korean speakers among its ranks to help with summit preparations.
But, barring a shock last minute development, the historic meeting between the U.S. and North Korean leaders will go ahead.
They are scheduled to meet on Tuesday on the resort island of Sentosa.
Kim's chief of staff was spotted in Beijing last week after wrapping up talks with USA officials in Singapore which had included security discussions. There was no need to.
However, the U.S. is not expecting to get a final deal in Singapore.
You can imagine the drumming of fingers in anterooms as officials wait to be told if there will be peace in our time, or whether it's all fallen apart and we're heading for the airport.
While this meeting with Mr Kim may be just the start of what might be a long and fraught journey, it is at least that - a start. Would conventional politics have even taken us this far? Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim met with Singapore Prime Minister Lee, hours after arriving here.
He has also dangled the prospect of Kim visiting Washington if the meeting goes well. No other politician in the United States could have had a summit because no one has ever recognized North Korea as a proper nation.
The US president vowed to unleash "fire and fury" if Pyongyang kept threatening the US. It also annoyed Singapore residents by offering to pay Kim's hotel bill.
In return, Mr Kim called him "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".
The tests came amid a campaign of "maximum pressure" on North Korea, led by the United States, that tightened economic sanctions and the possibility of military action.
Just a week before his April visit to the demilitarised zone (DMZ) for his first summit with Moon, Kim declared an end to nuclear testing, effectively ending his "byungjin" twin strategy that pursues nuclear prowess alongside economic development.

Since then, the path to the summit has been rocky, with Mr Trump at one point calling it off completely.
