'Built in India', Uber Lite is 'designed for the world'

Uber launches 5MB Uber Lite app in India Uber launches a low-data Lite app that's just 5MB in size

Uber on Tuesday launched a lighter and trimmed down version of its app in India. Uber Lite is a simple version of the rider app that saves space, works on any network, and on any Android phone. The app caches the top locations in your city, making it easy to pick a destination even when you're in an area with little to no connectivity. The app is made keeping in mind emerging markets, and India is the first place the company has chose to launch it. Uber Lite has been made available in Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Delhi for now. Uber is launching the app in India today with a promise to roll it out soon to other countries as well. The app is sized lesser than 5MB and is compatible with phones running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and higher. Interestingly, Uber won't be the first taxi aggregator to have a Lite app in the Indian Market. There is no Maps view with real-time auto tracking, and this app uses Global Positioning System location to find the rider if the network is lost. If it can't accurately pinpoint your location (due to Global Positioning System or network issues) it will offer you nearby pickup points that might work for you.

You will then be offered with a list of rides to choose from along with the fare rates. The new Uber Lite app will allow users to have the same experience but will have a smaller footprint.

CBI seeks Red Corner Notice against Nirav Modi from Interpol
The consent clause is whether a person's approval is sought before the process to ascertain his or her nationality has started. The report claims that MEA is yet to push for extradition in the case as it is waiting for request from relevant authorities.

Uber Lite tick marks all necessary requirements for a Lite app but the real test will be done when it is used on poor internet connectivity. The maps don't show up when you launch the app, but there's an option to bring them up.

Uber says it's also working on local language support, a progress bar that will let you follow your cab's progress, and the ability to book a ride even when you're offline. The Uber Lite app which cuts down on the heavy animation and the default map view will prove useful for users who are low on storage and are on a slow internet connection.
