Dairy farmers back Trudeau; says U.S. aims to 'wipe out' Canadian industry

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addresses a press conference Dairy farmers back Trudeau; says U.S. aims to 'wipe out' Canadian industry

Soon after Trump left the G7 summit he tweeted that he had instructed the House of Representatives not to endorse the final communique of the G7 summit due to Trudeau's "false statements at his news conference", as the Canadian prime minister dismissed United States metal tariffs as "insulting" and announced retaliatory measures.

Trump says Trudeau "probably didn't know that Air Force One has about 20 televisions".

Prime Minister Theresa May has paid tribute to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's leadership after a G7 summit which she described as "difficult".

Trudeau had said Canadians "are polite, we're reasonable, but also we will not be pushed around". She also said the European Union would "act" against the US trade measures.

Canada-U.S. relations seem to have reached their lowest point in more than a generation after Trump tweeted Saturday that he was withdrawing support from a G7 joint communique, while complaining he had been blindsided by Trudeau's criticism of U.S. tariffs at a closing news conference. Trump told reporters at a press conference following the summit that Trudeau's comments "cost a lot of money for the people of Canada".

White House Director of Trade Policy Peter Navarro dodges the press after speaking on Fox News at the White House in Washington DC

Trump took aim at an unspecified news release issued by Canada saying, "they made nearly 100 bln dollars on trade with u.s. (guess they were bragging and got caught!)". "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did". The compromise on that issue resulted in language that said "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade and investment, while creating reciprocal benefits, are key engines for growth and job creation".

Navarro wasn't the only Trump official to go after Trudeau. Trump said it was snapped as they waited for changes he'd requested to the communique he ended up pulling out of. Trudeau pulled a "sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption" that amounted to "a betrayal", said Kudlow, who appeared on CNN's "State of the Union" and CBS' "Face the Nation".

In the end, Trump never visited the sessions on climate or the ocean, but held its own news conference, where he slammed "unfair trade" and promised to cut ties with countries that didn't adhere to a "zero tariffs", policy, then leaving for a summit in Singapore. The Trudeau government has announced it will impose dollar-for-dollar, retaliatory tariffs on metals and a range of other USA products by July 1. And we were waiting for the document to come back so we could read it.

On Tuesday Trump reiterated his belief that the United States is "being taken advantage of by virtually every one" of the countries in the G7. Minimum is 17B. Tax Dairy from us at 270%.

He continued by saying Trudeau's comments are "not what true friends do" and added "I think Peter Navarro's commentary on Fox was spot-on".
