Robert De Niro Apologizes To Canada For Trump's 'Idiotic Behavior'

Julia Gonzales | 13 June, 2018, 03:44

The statement in response from CBS: "Mr. De Niro's comments were unscripted and unexpected".

Trump responded on Twitter by slamming Trudeau as "very dishonest and weak".

Robert De Niro received a standing ovation at this year's Tony Awards for cursing US President Donald Trump on stage but the audience at home was unable to hear the expletive from the veteran actor as the CBS network beeped it out.

Jazz and Motown music played as guests waited for De Niro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa and other Nobu executives to arrive.

"Robert De Niro just yelled "F*** Trump" on national television before introducing Bruce Springsteen, and I am absolutely here for it", one user wrote.

De Niro is one of the most respected actors in the United States with two Oscar wins for Raging Bull and The Godfather: Part II.

The venerable actor followed his f-bomb laden screed against Trump at Sunday's Tony Awards with a more reserved encore at a news conference in Toronto.

Mulroney says he's 'never seen anything' like Trump surrogates' attacks on Trudeau
On Fox News Sunday , White House Director of Trade Policy Peter Navarro also defended the president with adversarial language. In the most Canadian manner (polite), not directly targeting anyone unlike POTUS (President of the United States).

While it was hoped that the trip could be used to help defuse tensions over a brewing trade war between the two countries, Trump began firing off tweets lashing out at Trudeau nearly as soon as he left.

Trudeau said Canada "will not be pushed around". He applauded De Niro.

This isn't the first time De Niro has gone after Trump.

"America is being run by a madman who wouldn't recognize the truth if it came inside a bucket of his beloved Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken", De Niro said.

In March, he called the president an "idiot" who "lacks any sense of humanity or compassion", People reported.

A spokesperson for the U.S. network CBS - which was broadcasting the event - subsequently confirmed that it had bleeped the actor's curses out of the show.
