People should not eat the recalled cut melon or fruit salad products, the CDC said.

The recalled products were distributed to Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and OH and sold in clear, plastic containers at stores including Costco Wholesale Corp, Kroger Co, Payless, Owen's, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Walmart Inc, and Whole Foods, a unit of Amazon.com Inc.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, salmonella is to blame for making 60 people sick last month in a multi-state outbreak.

The salmonella outbreak in eight states has been linked to pre-cut melon sold at Walmart, Costco, Jay C, Payless, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Walgreens and Kroger stores.

The FDA said it's working with the CDC to determine if the recalled products went to additional stores or states.

Kroger reported that it has withdrawn store-brand precut cantaloupe, watermelon and melon mixes sold at Kroger, Jay C, Owen's and Pay Less stores in IN and MI due to possible salmonella contamination.

One thing hampering the search is divers can't go into the water until the alligator is captured, Engle said. A passerby saw Matsuki's with her dogs near the shoreline about 9:45 a.m.

Only pre-cut melon is affected by the recall.

About 60 people in five states, including five in IN, were sickened by the fruit, the health department said.

Epidemiologic and preliminary traceback evidence indicates that precut melon supplied by Caito Foods is "a likely source of this multistate outbreak", the CDC said in a statement on Friday.

The CDC's website states that, as of Thursday, 66 percent of the salmonella patients had been hospitalized and no deaths had been reported. Caito's website says the Indianapolis Service Center and Fresh Cut facility is located at 3120 N. Post Road.

If consumers find they purchased or received the products in question, they are advised to not eat the product and to throw the product away. "Caito Foods has ceased producing and distributing these products as the company and FDA continue their investigation".
