Eight days after it agreed to give peace a chance, Pakistan Rangers reneged its promise and resorted to heavy firing and shelling on the Indian forward positions along the International Border, leaving four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, including two officers dead in Ramgarh sector of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir. "Injured BSF personnel have been evacuated to hospital", the statement said.

A BSF spokesman identified the martyred BSF personnel as Assistant Commandant Jitender Singh, Sub-Inspector Rajneesh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramniwas and Constable Hansraj.

Expressing concern over the rising incidents of terror attacks during the unilateral ceasefire announced by the Centre during the holy month of Ramzan, National Conference vice-president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "With the militant organisations doing their best to make sure the ceasefire is a failure they will only have themselves to blame if the security forces come back at them even harder when the ceasefire ends".

Pakistan Rangers usually offer a chaddar and candies on behalf of the people of Pakistan and BSF in turn gives them "shakkar" (holy soil) and sherbet from the shrine, which many believe, cures skin related ailments.

"In Ramgarh Jammu sector of IB, 4 BSF personnel were martyred including one Asstt Commandant & 5 injured due to firing from across".

During unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistan, four courageous jawans laid down their lives while defending the sanctity of the country, a BSF spokesman said.

Eleven BSF troops have been killed in cross-border firing incidents along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir till date in 2018, the highest casualty figure for the border force in a year in the past five years, the latest data revealed.

The 1990 born Constable Hansraj Gurjar joined BSF in 2011 hailed from Alwar in Rajasthan and Assitant Sub Inspector Ramniwas, who was born in 1966 and joined BSF in 1988 also hailed from Sikar Rajasthan. BSF troops also fired in retaliation, the official said.

J&K witnessed over 700 ceasefire violations this year, starting from January.

A similar truce was agreed upon on May 21, after a wave of ceasefire violations left two BSF jawans and four civilians dead.

The BSF-Pak Rangers Sector Commander level meeting was held on global border opposite the Border Outpost Octroi on June 5.

BSF immediately swung into action and retaliated in equal measure to silence Pakistani guns.
