Despite reports that big footballing nations like France and Italy would cast their votes for Morocco, the North American bid won in blowout fashion on Wednesday, receiving 134 votes to Morocco's 65. The winning bid listed 17 USA cities, including L.A., San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami and Philadelphia, as potential match sites; organizers will select 10 of those.

Canada will host men's World Cup matches for the first time, while Mexico gets its first taste of the event since 1986.

The U.S. proposed staging 60 out of the 80 games in 2026, when 16 teams will be added to the tournament, leaving Canada and Mexico with ten fixtures each. "We are all united in football".

The US hosted the World Cup in 1994, while the tournament was held twice in Mexico (1970 and 1986).

Hasseltine said Monday that the focus of Baltimore's bid committee would now turn to tying up "any loose ends", from potential practice venues to the creation of green spaces in the city. "Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of hosting the World Cup in 2026". So between selling us getting involved, it's also: "What can we set as the footprint to leave a better Baltimore after the event's gone?" "Together-in partnership with our Candidate Host Cities, the Member Associations, and FIFA-we will use this platform to unite the world around football and help create a new and sustainable blueprint for the future of FIFA World Cups™". Canadian officials say they will push to keep all three of their host cities.

Canada will officially co-host 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.

Achilles, who belongs to the renowned Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg, today made his first prediction - picking Russian Federation to win over Saudi Arabia in the tournament's opening game on Thursday.

But I would like everyone to think of other reasons, to think of South Africa, where the World Cup starts next month, and a young girl called Nothemba, to think of Eddie from Manchester and Kadra from west London.

Toronto's mayor noted that Canada had little chance of hosting the global soccer tournament on its own, but will now reap the benefits resulting from its participation in the joint bid.

Miami and Orlando are among the 23 cities in the running to host matches, and Hard Rock Stadium - built for soccer and known as a host to sold-out worldwide matches - is expected to be selected. This will be the first time since 2002 that the World Cup will be held in multiple nations.

Of course, the CPL is but one avenue by which players will be supplied to Canada's national team.

And after the shame and surprise of losing to Qatar for World Cup 2022, the U.S.is back and hosting the World Cup with Mexico and Canada along for the ride, 10 games each.
