Defending Champ Joey Chestnut Eats 74 Hot Dogs, Sets Record

Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest to Air Live July 4 on ESPN2 What time is the 2018 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest? How, where to watch

Chestnut is the sport's all-time record holder, as he consumed 73.5 hot dogs in the 2016 event, and he came close to that previous year when he downed 72 hot dogs (with buns) in 10 minutes.

Since 1972, thousands of curious onlookers have gathered at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, New York to witness the gastronomical feat known as the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Sudo fell short of the 41 hot dogs she ate in winning last year's contest. It was an impressive number - at that point, he had out-eaten second-place finisher Carmen Cincotti by 19 hot dogs and buns - but far off from his own world record of 73.5.

Michelle Lesco, left, poses in a stare-down with defending women's champion Mika Sudo during Nathan's Famous International Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest weigh-in at the Empire State Building on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in NY.

Chestnut has won the competition 10 times and set the record for the most hot dogs eaten in the men's competition. According to Major League Eating, the body that oversees professional eating contests, Chestnut once ate almost 13 pounds of deep-fried asparagus in 10 minutes and 55 glazed donuts in the same amount of time. The under-counted tally was then displayed on live TV.

China Will Halt Any Disorderly Yuan Slide, Morgan Stanley Says
The European stock futures point to gains of 0.3 percent in France's CAC and Britain's FTSE and 0.5 percent in Germany's DAX. The Hong Kong market remained choppy and was last down 1.9 percent, while the Shanghai bourse edged up 0.05 percent.

Ms Lesco ate 28 sausages and buns. Not fireworks or a Taylor Swift party (RIP), but a world record at a hot dog eating contest.

The Fourth of July event, considered by some to be the Super Bowl of competitive eating, also featured 74-year-old Rich "The Locust" LeFevre - the oldest competitor in the contest's 101-year history. The victory handed him the coveted Mustard Belt for the eleventh time in his "hot dog-eating" career.

Miki Sudo is looking for her third consecutive win in the women's competition. That day, he broke his 2016 personal record of 70 dogs, and spectators are committed to seeing whether he can pull off a similar feat this year.

Sudo downed 41 franks and buns past year. But, we're sure Miki is not anxious about that as both she and Joey get to take home $10,000 for their big win!
