In a statement released Tuesday, Ford says he canceled the regulations that shaped the system of carbon taxation.

Ford says that the province, however, will assume the responsibilities for contracts and orders that have already been signed for projects funded under this program.

Cap and trade, a carbon tax by another name, raises prices on goods and services rather than the taxes on them.

According to Ontario's Auditor General, the cap-and-trade system is costing Ontario residents and businesses $8 billion annually, with a "negligible impact" on the province's carbon emissions, which is the whole objective of the system.

"The previous government attempted to institute a cap on ticket resales with no way to enforce that cap, resulting in less consumer protection", Ford spokesperson Simon Jeffries said in an email statement to the CBC. CTV News Canada is reporting that Ford also said some payments will be decided on a "case-to-case" basis as to whether they will be paid using the tax base revenue.

Musk added that aside from actually digging holes, The Boring Company has access to " advanced ground penetrating radar ". The Boring Company is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company, while SpaceX is Musk's aerospace venture.

But Ford said businesses will benefit financially from no longer having to buy carbon credits, and Ontario will challenge Trudeau in court.

It was unclear what, if anything, the Ontario government would implement in contrast to curb resale prices.

"Canadians expect us to protect the environment and grow our economy, and we are taking action". "We know that the premier. promised to get rid of cap and trade and we understand he's moving quickly to fulfill that promise but I think that there are some problems here because there are some questions that haven't been answered", he said.

Some of the number crunchers have estimated that Ford's decision could cost Ontario about $420 million in federal transfer payments that were targeted for environmental programs.

"The Ontario government will need to find billions of dollars to buy back those permits, or risk being sued".
