Samsung’s biggest factory will be inaugurated in India today

Samsung makes world's largest mobile factory in Noida Noida now has the largest mobile factory in the world

In 2005, the current mobile manufacturing unit was added, production began in 2007, and in 2012, when Samsung became the country's leading mobile manufacturer, the Noida facility rolled out the first-ever Samsung Galaxy S3 phone.

As a result of the latest investment in the Noida factory, the production capacity of smartphones is expected to rise to 12 million units a month from the existing 5 million. Thereafter, they will also visit a Samsung plant in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

One of the first electronics manufacturing facilities set up in the country in the early 1990s, the plant started by manufacturing TVs in 1997. To be clear, Samsung has had manufacturing in India for over two decades. Before the launch of the Noida plant Samsung was manufacturing 67 million phones in India, mostly at its other base in Tamil Nadu, Southern India.

In a statement issued then, the company had said: "The expansion of the plant on an additional 35 acres of land adjacent to the current facility will double the production capacity of both mobile phones and refrigerators".

In June previous year, the electronics giant announced a Rs 4,915-crore investment plan to expand the Noida facility. Samsung also manufactures refrigerators, television panels, smartphones, feature phones, etc at this particular factory.

Stocks rise as investors cheer jobs report
USA stocks traded on an upbeat note on Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by encouraging jobs data. While China accused Washington of triggering the "largest-scale trade war", US stock indexes rose.

The new Samsung factory will have the capacity to fabricate 120 million smartphones per year, and make everything from low-end smartphones that cost under $100 to the company's flagship S9 model, according to the company. In smartphones, Samsung had a 24.7 per cent share over all of 2017, though it has lost in individual quarters to Chinese rival Xiaomi, which has grown in India. Today, Samsung is the market leader across mobile segments. Officially the event will start at around 5.30 pm in the evening.

Due to security-related issues, several diversions have been announced by the Noida police for today starting at 4 PM till 9 PM. In total over 70,000 people are employed by the plant in Noida.

Samsung's reputation was dealt a blow by the bribery conviction of Lee Jae-yong, who was a key figure in the scandal that ousted former South Korean leader Park Geun-hye following massive nationwide protests, and was sentenced to five years in jail last year. There are two in Bengaluru, one in Pune, one in Delhi and one in Noida.

The plant spans 35 acres (141 thousand sq.m.) and aims to increase overall production of devices in India by 50%.
