The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it's partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local agencies to examine 212 confirmed cases of parasite-borne cyclosporiasis. Additionally, Del Monte is recalling "small veggie trays", which are 28oz and include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and dill dip that were distributed to IL and Indiana. The recalled products were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, but so far only consumers in four states - Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin - have reported coming down with the cyclosporiasis infection.

The first person known to be infected became sick on May 14. As many as 54 cases have also been reported in Minnesota, along with a handful in Iowa and MI.

Health officials say it can take up to a week to develop symptoms, which can include diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, cramping, bloating, increased gas, fatigue and low-grade fever.

What are the Symptoms of Cyclosporiasis? If not treated, these symptoms may last up to a month or longer.

Cyclosporiasis is an infection in the intestines caused by the cyclospora parasite. A recall was issued on 15 June 2018 for trays with a "Best if used by" date of 17 June which were sold at Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond's, Sentry, Potash, Meehan's, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket, and Peapod stores in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and MI.

The recalled products have a "Best If Enjoyed By" date of June 17, 2018. The trays were purchased at various retailers including Kwik Trip or Kwik Star convenience stores. If you have any of the vegetable trays in your home do not eat them and throw them away.

On June 8, Del Monte recalled 6-ounce and 12-ounce vegetable trays from retail locations.

The investigation is ongoing and the CDC will provide updates when more information is available.
