Scott Pruitt, former Oklahoma Attorney General and former trustee at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS), resigned his position as head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) July 5 after months of ethical allegations, according to news reports.

Glider production had increased from 1,000 in 2010 to 10,000 in 2015, and Obama's EPA estimated that if those trends continued, the trucks would account for half of all truck-caused nitrogen oxide pollution by 2030. After reviewing comments on that proposal submitted by stakeholders, the agency determined additional evaluation is needed before a final decision is made, said Molly Block, an EPA spokeswoman. She noted that one option the agency is considering is extending to December 31, 2019 the compliance date for the 300-unit limit.

"I'm glad to see Pruitt go", Jepsen said. The president added that on Monday, Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler will step in as Acting EPA Administrator.

The rollback was immediately condemned by environmental groups, which have appealed to the White House to block the EPA from creating the loophole.

One year's worth of truck sales was estimated to release 13 times as much nitrogen oxide as all of the Volkswagen diesel cars with fraudulent emissions controls, a scheme that resulted in a criminal case against the company and more than $4 billion in fines. In several instances, reporters who learned where Pruitt would be speaking were removed from the event or denied access. In 2018, those manufacturers were limited to no more than 300 gliders.

While experts anticipate that the EPA will continue to implement the Trump administration's. But in an opinion piece written in April, Tommy Fitzgerald Sr., its chief executive, praised Pruitt and blamed industry competitors, like Volvo, that sell new trucks for the now-delayed regulatory effort.

A CNN investigation released shortly before Pruitt's departure last week revealed his aides kept "secret" calendars to hide controversial entries, such as meetings with industries regulated by EPA, according to a former EPA official.
