Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended goalkeeper Loris Karius after another mistake - this time in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere.

Goals from Adam Lallana, Rafael Camacho and Ojo were enough to hand Liverpool the victory, and the latter really staked his claim to be involved with the first-team next term.

Until he has a few fantastic games, you can not change that.

A free-kick from Tranmere's Oliver Norburn was struck well by the midfielder, but it was straight at Karius, and while he should have safely taken the ball into his chest, Karius duly failed to snaffle the ball, and it rebounded off his midriff into the path of Jonny Smith, who coolly slotted the ball past the diving Reds stopper.

Amadou Soukouna grabbed another for the League Two side but Liverpool held on to follow up a 7-0 friendly win over Chester on Saturday, in which the former Mainz keeper played 45 minutes.

"We can not change that".

Courtois made 154 appearances for Chelsea , and has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup. Chelsea are eyeing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois .

"Loris concedes that goal, but we can not start a story always after each mistake". Our job is to support Loris, that's our part of the deal.

He remains Liverpool's preferred target, however, Karius is for now remaining Jurgen Klopp's No.1.

He said: "No one likes that goal but, if we talk about that, then the second goal is Milly's [James Milner's] fault. Mistakes will happen; I don't like it, he doesn't like it, but it will happen, so let's carry on and make the best of all these situations by learning from them".

"Two brilliant footballers make this mistake, which one was the bigger? I would say the second one but we don't talk about that".

"First half was obviously good". We had more chances to score, but then we conceded the goals, which is not nice.
