Facebook Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, tragically passed away just days after winning her esteemed title, her devastated owner confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, delivered the sad news about the 9-year-old dog.

Although her final weeks alive were spent traveling and making television appearances, Zsa Zsa spent over half her life in a puppy mill before she was rescued by a non-profit organisation and adopted by Ms Brainard.

Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog who was crowned the World's Ugliest Dog last month, has died. "I'm still in shock".

With her crooked teeth, underbite and tongue hanging out of her mouth, Zsa Zsa won over the competition's judges and collected a $1,500 prize as the victor of the 30th annual contest.

Brainard told TODAY that Zsa Zsa's passing was "devastating". Her owner was awarded $1,500 for Zsa Zsa's win. She said her family held a small memorial for the pooch, known to love Slim Jims and burritos from the Mexican fast-food chain Chipotle.

The dog won the ugliness title at a contest last month in Petaluma, California. "We were all saying our goodbyes".

"She is just so ugly, she's attractive", Brainard told The New York Times last month.

"She knew she was special".

"From the moment we saw her lovely face, we knew we would be her forever home", Brainard said at the time.
