In what her lawyer dubbed a "politically motivated" set-up, Daniels was arrested without incident at the Sirens club in Columbus, Ohio after officers accused her of knowingly touching club patrons "in a specified anatomical area".

CNN has reached out to the Columbus Police Department for more details. He went on to allege it was a politically motivated arrest. "We will fight all bogus charges", Avenatti tweeted.

Ohio's Community Defense Act prohibits touching a nude or semi-nude dancer in a club, besides members of the dancer's immediate family.

She fondled a third officer's buttocks and breasts, according to the documents.

Columbus police charged Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, with three misdemeanor counts of touching a patron at a "sexually oriented" business in violation of an OH strip club law, according to online court records. He said his client was "performing the same performance that she has conducted at over a hundred strip clubs around the country".

Court records show Daniels posted $6,054.00 in bail and was released.

"Are you kidding me?" Trump, who was married at the time of the alleged affair, has disputed her claims. They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this?

The Sirens Gentlemen's Club had posted on its website that Daniels was scheduled to perform there Wednesday and Thursday. "There has to be higher priorities".

They remained apart for two months, with Pulex in detention in El Paso and her daughter sent to live with a foster family in MI . According to the document, the child is under the age of five and has been held in an ICE detention center for over a year.

Ms Daniels says she was paid $130,000 (£98,000) shortly before the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet about her alleged sexual encounter with Mr Trump.

Avenatti issued a statement on her behalf saying that as a result, her performance at the jiggle joint Thursday night would be canceled.

Daniels has been embroiled in a lawsuit with the President since early March, to get out of a non-disclosure agreement relating to an alleged affair she had with him in 2006.

Avenatti called the arrest a "complete set up".

Avenatti said Daniels will enter a "not guilty" plea and won't appear in court for her arraignment at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning at Franklin Municipal Court.

Through White House officials, Trump has denied the affair, although Cohen has admitted paying Daniels $130,000 as part of the agreement.

However, Trump - who initially denied knowledge of the payment - subsequently conceded that Cohen was in fact reimbursed.
