Wimbledon 2018 -- Angelique Kerber advances to final

Serena Williams rallies to reach Wimbledon semifinals Wimbledon | Goerges sets up Wimbledon semi-final date with Serena

When tennis champion Serena Williams competed Tuesday at Wimbledon, eventually defeating Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi, she had an old friend cheering her on - her ex, Drake.

Leading 5-4 and two points away from taking the first set at 0-30 on Hsieh's serve, Cibulkova struck a backhand onto the baseline that was called out.

And it would be a first as a mum - or should that be second, given the American was in the early stages of pregnancy while claiming the Australian Open in 2017?

In the semi-final match-ups, Serena Williams will face Julia Goerges while Jelena Ostapenko will battle another German lady, Angelique Kerber.

The match that precedes Williams on Centre Court promises to be more competitive.

Ostapenko, 21, had admitted she cracked under the strain of defending the French Open title when she lost in the first round last month. She had never even got to the quarter-finals of a major tournament before, let alone the semi-finals.

"Every match starts from zero", Goerges said of her semifinal matchup against Williams. And I feel like I'm back.

Still, Williams said she's not getting too excited as she's still adjusting to tennis after returning from maternity leave.

The fifth-seeded del Potro failed to convert four match points when serving at 5-4 in the fourth set, but maintained his composure to close out the contest with his first opportunity in the tiebreaker that followed.

And while she has benefited from the decimation of the seeds in the women's draw - none of the top 10 made the quarter-finals for the first time ever in the Open era - the player herself believes she has always had the skills to succeed at SW19.

"Wow, it's pretty fantastic", Goerges said.

Trump's remarks on Germany and Russian Federation generated a sharply worded response from German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Trump's next stop will be London, where he'll be meeting with Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

"I don't feel any pressure".

"I'm just here just to be here, and to prove that I'm back", Williams added.

"But I'm just very glad the way I handled everything today because it wasn't an easy match at all".

With no top-10 seeds making the quarterfinals for the first time in Wimbledon history, 11th-seeded Kerber is the highest-ranked player left in the hunt for the Venus Rosewater Dish.

Seven-time champion Serena Williams reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a straightforward win over Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina.

The former world number one then capitalised on more poor play from Ostapenko, breaking her serve at the first time of asking in the second set and again in the sixth game. She beat the ninth-seeded Williams in the third round after coming from a break down in the third set.

The Queen is back, with Tuesday's win guaranteeing that she will jump from 181 to at least 51 when the new rankings are announced next week.

Triumphant in her two previous Wimbledon tilts in 2015 and 2016, Williams's victory also extended her winning streak on the London grass to 19 matches.

Williams, for the first time since her comeback, appears to have her body and mind aligned to take that next step.
