England face Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday in Russian Federation (19:00 kick-off), with the victor playing France or Belgium on Sunday (16:00).

However, Lewis said he would have no objection if numerous 15,000 fans inside Centre Court wanted to follow the football on their devices - as long as they did not disturb the players. On the same day the men's quarter-finals will be held in SW19.

However Richard Lewis, chief executive of AELTC, indicated the conditions of entry would be relaxed as the matches go head-to-head, with use of electronic devices permitted if they do not cause disruption.

Fans will, however, be able to follow the action in Russian Federation on their phones and tablets using the tournament's wifi signal.

The men's singles final, scheduled to begin at the traditional time of 2pm on Sunday, will not be moved to avoid a clash with the climax of the football tournament, organisers have confirmed.

Two men's quarter-finals were still in progress on the main show courts as the Three Lions took on Croatia in their Moscow semi-final.

There had been talk of the World Cup final being shown on the big screen on Henman Hill at Wimbledon but that has been ruled out.

Many spectators opted to leave the grounds and watch the match at neighbouring pubs, leaving Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka to start off their third round match in front of thousands of empty green seats.

Those who stuck around appeared more interested in following the action from Russian Federation via electronic devices instead of watching the tennis take place in front of them.

"Saturday was one of the most special days I can remember at the championships".

"People followed the football on their devices thanks to modern technology without disturbing other spectators".

I was out and about around the grounds and you could tell when England had scored and it was lovely, it was wonderful.

"We didn't have one single complaint of anybody here feeling that the football interfered with their enjoyment of Wimbledon".

As Business Insider UK's Sports Reporter, I attended Wimbledon in the VIP area.

Asked yesterday if he had concerns about noise from the Centre Court crowd, Federer light-heartedly replied: "I'm more concerned the World Cup final will have issues because the Wimbledon final is going on". "They'll hear every point, wow, love-15, 15-30", he said.
