Liverpool close to completing Shaqiri transfer

Sidney Guerrero | 13 July, 2018, 23:59

At the World Cup, Shaqiri scored a 90th-minute victor to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the group stage last month.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Shaqiri in recent months and TeamTalk reported earlier this week that Manchester United had joined their rivals in the race to sign the Switzerland global.

Liverpool, certainly, is ahead of any other Premier League sides in the transfer market as the Merseysiders already have clinched the signatures of highly rated midfield pair Naby Keita and Fabinho.

The 26-year-old scored eight goals and made seven assists in 36 Premier League games for the Potters last season but could not prevent them from dropping down to the Championship.

Xherdan Shaqiri will have a medical with Liverpool on Friday, according to the Daily Telegraph.

And the Liverpool boss believes Shaqiri will slot in perfectly with what he wants to achieve at Anfield, praising the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger's "arrogance".

'I'm very happy to be here, ' Shaqiri said. "So I'm really glad and happy to be here", Shaqiri told the club's official website.

'As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football.

"From our perspective, he is someone who makes a big difference to the squad and team, because he can fit in so many positions in our system".
