Former national security adviser Mike Flynn has a new job: He has joined a global lobbying and investment advisory firm.

The lifelong intelligence official had blown the opportunity of a lifetime: After securing the role of national security adviser in the Trump White House, Flynn managed to get himself fired just 23 days into the job.

To make matters even more uplifting, the firm has also made a decision to give Michael "Pizzagate" Flynn Jr. a second chance to put his indisputable talents to good use.

Muzin and Allaham did not comment on Flynn's unresolved legal status nor on his dismissal from the White House a year ago.

In response, Muzin, Stonington Global's founder, said: "We can not comment on General Flynn's considerations about the timing of the announcement, but we have faith in his patriotism and long history of service to or country".

At Tuesday's hearing, Flynn attorney Robert Kelner told the judge his cooperation agreement with prosecutors remains in effect. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to investigators about his discussions with the then-Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential transition. The general did not speak, but Kelner said his client is "eager" to move on with his life.

Mueller was appointed in May 2017 to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election, links between the Trump campaign and Russia, and "any matters" arising from the probe.

Explosion heard near Cairo airport, flights unaffected
Business Insider A massive explosion reportedly rocked the area near Cairo International Airport on Thursday evening. The cause of the detonation and fire at the fuel depot is unknown as of yet.

Kelner says Flynn wants to put this "chapter" behind him, but special counsel Robert Mueller's team has requested an additional delay while the retired U.S. Army general continues to cooperate with the Russian Federation investigation.

Flynn is not the only person from Trump's team who agreed to cooperate with the special counsel's office.

Another Trump campaign associate whom Mueller's team charges with lying to associates and who pleaded guilty a year ago, George Papadopoulos, is set to be sentenced September 7. A related trial has been set in the District of Columbia in September on money laundering charges.

It was not immediately clear from Tuesday's brief hearing before U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan what continuing obligation remained for Flynn before a sentencing hearing could be scheduled in the case. The special counsel's office and Flynn's lawyers recently asked the probation office to prepare a pre-sentence report, a standard step that normally involves an investigation into a convicted criminal's background to document extenuating circumstances that might lessen the sentence, or a criminal history to justify a heavier sentence.

Prosecutors said Flynn and Kislyak met in December 2016 to discuss the economic sanctions that the Obama administration had imposed on Moscow for allegedly interfering in the presidential election. He has also acknowledged performing the work without registering as a foreign agent as required by US law.

That investigation expanded to his receiving tens of thousands of dollars by Russian firms to appear at events, and his undeclared lobbying for Turkey during the 2016 presidential campaign, for which he reportedly earned more than $500,000.

Flynn arrived at the courthouse Tuesday morning with his wife, Lori, where small groups of rival protesters waved signs and shouted both words of encouragement and derision at the former general.

"Lock her up, that's right", Flynn said, as he began clapping along with the chant.
