Steve Bannon must testify to counter Peter Strzok testimony, House Democrats demand

But in his opening remarks on Thursday to members of the House judiciary and oversight committees, Strzok said there was "no evidence of bias in my professional actions" and defended Mueller's probe.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, threatened Strzok with contempt, claiming he was under subpoena.

On Thursday, Strzok had his day in the hot seat before the House judiciary and oversight committees ― whom Kimmel called "bozos in the House" and a "collection of clowns". "This decision is long overdue". Strzok, an expert in the field of counterintelligence, had played a leading role in the Hillary Clinton investigation.

Strzok endured roughly 11 hours of testimony before House lawmakers Thursday, with many Republicans focusing on his text of "we'll stop it" in reference to Trump's campaign.

Throughout the hearing, Strzok denied that any of his animus toward Trump affected his work, and said lawmakers were taking his words out of context.

Strzok replied that he was not under subpoena, but testifying voluntarily - and that he could not answer questions "related to the ongoing investigations being undertaken by the special counsel's office".

Mueller reassigned Strzok after the Justice Department discovered highly political text messages that he sent Page during the 2016 election cycle. At one point, Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California chimed in, saying, "This is a stupid and ridiculous hearing".

"To my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, please replace President Trump's name with your own name in a small sample of things Mr. Strzok has said", he said.

In the clip below, Gowdy reads a part of one of Strzok's texts.

He said the late-night, off-the-cuff text reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behaviour" by the presidential candidate.

He also teased the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, over his strongman reputation, greeting him jokingly as "dictator". This is not the first time that Juncker has exhibited behaviour that indicates a drink problem.

As Rep. Gowdy interrupted Strzok, Rep. David Cicilline (D-NJ) interjected, noting Gowdy was already a minute and a half over his time limit.

On Thursday, Strzok said the message was written late at night after Trump's campaign comments disparaging a slain US soldier.

Strzok angrily responded, saying the "we'll stop it" text came in response to campaign occurrences such as Trump insulting the immigrant father of a fallen USA soldier.

Strzok also said he was one of the few people during the 2016 USA election who knew the details of Russian election interference and its possible connections with people in the Trump orbit, and that information could have derailed Trump's election chances.

Committee members sought to question Strzok about the texts and to determine how, if at all, his anti-Trump bias impacted the investigations.

FBI Director Chris Wray says the bureau has referred to internal disciplinary officials employees who were singled out for criticism in the inspector general's report.

But Republicans eager to undermine Mueller's investigation berated Strzok, citing the texts as evidence of partisan bias within law enforcement.

Page is expected to speak to lawmakers at a private meeting Friday.

Rudy Giuliani opened up a new front late Thursday night in his war against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, saying that his entire Russian Federation probe should be tossed out because a former key investigator's "pathological hatred" of Donald Trump has tainted everything in his path.
