I know Europe very well and it's been tough, ' Trump said in a joint press conference held today with Prime Minister Theresa May. I think it's a very negative thing for Europe.

"I think it's very much hurt Germany. It's a very sad situation it's very unfortunate", President Trump said, probably alluding to Sweden - a historically safe country - where now the vast majority of gang rapists and suspects in nearly all serious crimes are of a migrant background. But he reiterated his belief that Europe's decision to accept migrants from Middle Eastern and African countries is "a very negative thing for Europe".

Telling British and American reporters gathered in the garden at her countryside residence that the United Kingdom "has a proud history of welcoming people" and that immigration has been good for the country. "We have a proud history of welcoming people who want to come to our country to contribute to our economy and contribute to our society". And over the years, overall immigration has been good for the UK.

But the Prime Minister disagreed, in something of a 'Love Actually' moment of defiance that people earlier in the day had been calling for.

'What is important is we have control of our borders and a set of rules to determine who comes into our country'.

"I think he has done a very bad job on terrorism", Trump said. "We're doing very well considering the fact that we don't have immigration laws".

Times editor Francis Elliott asked Trump about his remarks to The Sun that Europe is "losing [its] culture" because of immigration.

He added: "All I think he's trying to do is stand up for American culture, as I think the British government should be standing up for British culture, and I think having national cultures in each country is important". I mean, you take a look at what's happening to different countries that never had difficulty, never had problems.

"I think they better watch themselves because you are changing culture you are changing a lot of things, you're changing security", he continued.

The hit on Germany, which has taken in thousands of immigrants from war-torn Syria, followed another attack he launched from Brussels, where he bashed Germany for failing to spend more on its military to meet North Atlantic Treaty Organisation commitments and slammed an $11 billion pipeline deal with Moscow. Look at what is going on in London. "I think he has done a very bad job on terrorism", Trump said.

"I think he has done a bad job on crime, if you look, all of the terrible things going on there, with all of the crime that is being brought in", he went on.

"But I knew [Brexit] would happen and it did happen", President Trump added.

In a separate interview with BBC radio on Friday, Khan called Trump's claims "preposterous". We have very bad immigration laws.

While Trump has never explicitly said immigration is a threat to white Americans, he's made numerous disparaging remarks about immigrants who come to the USA whether legally or illegally.

President Trump arrives at Chequers in Aylesbury, England on Friday.

"What we need is a fair Australia-style points-based system which will make immigration fairer and controlled".

Trump's comments while overseas highlight his hardline immigration rhetoric that he often uses on the campaign trail, often linking it to increased crime, citing the gang MS-13. Despite the Trump administration's recent "zero tolerance" crackdown on illegal immigration, Democrats have rejected multiple bills from House Republicans, including one "compromise bill" that would give some existing but undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, but would also fund Trump's proposed border wall and provide for tougher enforcement of immigration law.

Trump also brought a similar immigration message to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels.
