TV and radio presenter Richard Bacon has been put in a medically induced coma after becoming seriously unwell with suspected pneumonia.

The 42-year-old former "Blue Peter", "The Big Breakfast" and "Top of the Pops" presenter, who has been working in America in recent years, took ill on a flight to Britain from the U.S. last week and it's revealed he is suffering from pneumonia.

His mother Christine has said that her son is "getting better".

"He was having a lot of oxygen ventilation, a lot more than a normal person would need, through a pipe, as well as lot of antibiotics", she told the paper.

'They kept him like that for a week and we hadn't left his side, at one point we really felt we might lose him'.

Doctors are said to be "no closer" to finding out what is wrong with the star.
