This summer Russian Federation hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup, which kicked off in Moscow with a remarkable opening show at Luzhniki Stadium on the evening of June 14 and ended with a spectacular final match, played also at the Luzhniki Stadium, where France confidently defeated Croatia 4-2 to win the much-coveted World Cup Trophy.

Putin, who was in attendance at the Luzhniki Stadium with French President Emmanuel Macron and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, congratulated his counterparts after a thrilling world cup final. "I am sure our friends from Qatar will manage to stage the 2022 FIFA World Cup just as exceptionally", Putin said at the Grand Kremlin Palace.

The Qatari emir said his country would apply all its efforts to make the next event a success.

"During the World Cup nearly 25 million cyber-attacks and other criminal attempts on Russia's information infrastructure, connected in one way or another to the running of the football World Cup, were neutralised", the president is quoted in a transcript of a meeting with security forces published Monday.

He also promised that Qatar would try to surpass Russia's success on the pitch, by getting beyond the quarterfinals."Although it will be hard to repeat that success as we're a small country, but we are very keen on sport", he said.

As the 2018 FIFA World Cup came to a close on 16 July, a ceremony took place in the Russian capital to hand over the role of FIFA World Cup hosts from Russia to Qatar. I remember that when our country was awarded the right to host the World Cup, it was a huge celebration for the whole Arabic world. A total of 64 training grounds had been constructed prior to the World Cup championship. "However, they are not the only sources of material in the world", Tamim el-Abed, Lusail Stadium project manager, said.

As part of it's winning bid in 2010, Qatar promised to take apart numerous stadiums at the end of the World Cup and send sections to developing countries to help them grow the game. It's over to Qatar 2022 now.

The final is due to be played on December 18.
