The 25-year-old, who now plays for Roma in Italy, is cutting short his vacation to undergo a medical on Merseyside after being given permission to talk to Liverpool.

Alisson had been on holiday in Sardinia after Brazil's World Cup campaign but he has now cut that short to finalise his switch to Anfield.

Alisson played in both legs as Roma lost 7-6 on aggregate to Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given public backing to Loris Karius following his calamitous Champions League final performance but has made signing a goalkeeper a priority. The Blues are set to lodge a £65 million bid to land the AS Roma goalkeeper, who is being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. Some reports have suggested Liverpool may follow their deal for Alisson by reigniting their pursuit of Nabil Fekir.

"Maybe something happens but it should not be the last day". He has been a subject of interest for the Reds as they ingressed the transfer window with a lookout for the man who could complete their jigsaw at goal and has perhaps identified Alisson for the task.

It's a big move for a Liverpool team looking to keep up with the likes of Manchester City, as the team seeks its first title since 1990.

"That means stay together, bring additions in and make the next step". At the moment, I am happy with the squad.

"He [Alisson] was a really important goalkeeper for us and his saves rescued a lot of points and games last season, but that is football", Perotti told Sky Sport Italia . "They know we need quality and they know if we win something, we will win it with 25 players".
