Tiger Woods Just Finished His First Round At The Open

Sidney Guerrero | 20 July, 2018, 22:37

His golf game couldn't quite match the excitement.

Things were going so well for Tiger Woods that he didn't have to mark a par putt until the eighth hole Thursday at Carnoustie.

If there's a similar discrepancy in scoring and Woods continues to stay in the fairway, it's easy to see him climbing into the top 10 by Friday afternoon and getting into contention at a major for the first time in three years.

Late starter Tiger Woods, who shot even-par 71, was among those who had to deal with a breeze that finally freshened long after most players were safely tucking into their evening fish and chips.

He grew up close to another major championship which awards its victor a Green Jacket instead of the Claret Jug up for grabs this week but as much as he loves the Masters he would take an Open victory without any complaints.

"I played better than what the score indicates because I had two 8-irons into both par fives today, and I end up with par on both of those", he said.

"I played a little bit better yesterday", said the three-time Open champion and 14-time major champion.

But at a damp and chilly Carnoustie, McIlroy said that while he may not enjoy the adverse conditions any better, he has "definitely learned to handle it a little better".

Finau, who now resides in Lehi, started his round at 3:31 a.m. MDT and made a 25-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole after reaching the green in regulation from a fairway pot bunker. I don't think the rain is going to affect how the golf course is playing in one day, but I have to just keep doing what I'm doing. "Hopefully I can create more good memories this week". But today with the wind coming out of the south, southeast, it didn't allow that. He was walking with a certain swagger we're beginning to see each time he gets on a roll. "It's just really hard".

Leicester move for Liverpool keeper could set off transfer chain reaction
Leicester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Danny Ward from Liverpool , the Premier League clubs announced on Friday. Danny Ward who was previously tipped to get chance to be Reds no.1 before Alisson's deal agreed.

Woods ended one dubious streak, one that saw him shoot over par in the first round of his last eight major championships, dating to the 2014 Open at Royal Liverpool.

But another trend continued. That year, he tied for fourth at the Masters and sixth at The Open.

Still, this does not seem as much of a hurdle.

American Kevin Kisner now holds the first-round lead.

After birdieing the par-4 1st hole, the two-time U.S. Open champion's front nine went about as poorly as it could. "It's kind of fun to watch him do that, to be honest".

As if on cue, Woods' game started looking more familiar, too.

After bogeying the par-4 5th hole, Kisner eagled the 6th hole, then birdied four of the next nine holes. He made the turn at 34 after a bogey at 7 and a birdie at 9.

Another fairway bunker at the 15th led to his third bogey, and then Woods did well to preserve par over the closing three holes. We could get after some of these flags, which was nice.
