The Springboks beat New Zealand 36-34 in their Rugby Championship match at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington, on Saturday.

Record-breaking former Springbok winger Bryan Habana‚ who played in the 2008 and 2009 teams that won in New Zealand tweeted: "5 tries against the Abs in New Zealand".

Beyond the lack of a dropped goal attempt, Barrett missed four of his six shots at goal and, inevitably, questions will be asked about whether he ought to have been relieved of the tee. "Our main thing is effort", said South Africa captain Siya Kolisi.

"It's an awesome day for the team and an awesome day for South Africa", the skipper said.

"We should be proud of ourselves but plenty more work to do". "This was one win with a bit of luck against the best team in the world".

"I'm very pleased. It's been a very tough weeks for the boys. We will take this win over the best team in the world and enjoy it, but we will keep our feet firmly on the ground".

South Africa - on the back consecutive defeats to Argentina and Australia - recovered from that early onslaught, though, and Le Roux set up Dyantyi to break in from the left and touch down under the posts. "They played particularly well and took all the chances that were there", coach Steve Hansen said.

"Anytime you lose it hurts. The dressing room is sombre, very quiet. but its important we learn something, otherwise it's waste of time".

"You've got to give them all the credit in the world the way they defended in that second half", All Blacks captain Kieran Read said. There were the nice hands and deft pass that put fullback Jordie Barrett over to score, in the fifth minute, but at other times kicks were poorly conceived or executed and there seemed a desire to try to bite off more than was available.

First, Ben Smith had to watch Dyantyi run in for the Springboks' first try, then a botched quick throw in by Jordie Barrett was snapped up by le Roux for the second.

The All Blacks showed intent by countering the Boks and they were duly rewarded with the second try through Aaron Smith after he received a brilliant no-look pop pass from Codie Taylor with Beauden Barret converting after seventeen minutes.
