Pochettino said he took some of the blame for the performance at Watford because he "could not change the situation" but believes after a painful 15 days stewing on it his side can lift the mood on Saturday.

Dele Alli will miss Tottenham's home clash with Liverpool on Saturday after he picked up a hamstring injury on worldwide duty.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed on Thursday that the French goalkeeper will remain Spurs skipper, despite being fined £50,000 and banned from driving for 20 months after being caught more than twice over the legal limit.

"The reality is they have a very good team and they have very good players", Pochettino said. He made a mistake and he's suffering all the punishment of society. We need to keep working and improving. "We need to give time to the players to get to their best and of course to show our potential in time".

"It's a massive lesson for everyone".

But Sherwood told the London Evening Standard: "I don't think it would be a disruption to the players or management at all, I think Mauricio [Pochettino] has made it quite obvious that he's not using it as an excuse".

The Springboks beat New Zealand 36-34 in their Rugby Championship match at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington , on Saturday. We will take this win over the best team in the world and enjoy it, but we will keep our feet firmly on the ground".

"Dele Alli hopes to be fit for the Londoners after missing England's game with Switzerland and although Harry Kane was quiet against Spain he is still the go to man for his club".

Alli suffered a hamstring injury and Lloris a thigh injury.

And Pochettino has no doubt about how good Winks can be.

The Magistrate who sentenced the 31-year-old said that not only had he put his own life at risk, but "that of your passenger".

"I think it's so clear, not only in his case, in all the players that have different situations, we are so clear, the club is so clear, when something happens we are going to communicate the news as soon as possible". Don't worry for me - we need to be anxious for the real things.
