She claimed in the letter that Kavanaugh and a classmate of his, both of whom had been drinking, turned up music that was playing in the room to hide the sound of her protests, and that Kavanaugh covered her mouth with his hand. While the second man remained anonymous in the New Yorker article, he came forward as Mark Judge to vigorously deny the charges to the Weekly Standard, though he still says he's not even aware of who wrote the letter. The letter noted that the signatories included women from "a broad range of political views". Two other people familiar with the matter confirmed it concerned an incident alleged to have occurred in high school. In particular, he has always treated women with decency and respect.

Questions swirled on Thursday when Feinstein declined to explain what information she was provided about Kavanaugh that she chose to share with authorities.

Shortly after Feinstein's statement was released, White House spokesperson Kerri Kupec criticized the timing. Not until the eve of his confirmation has Sen. The Senator took these allegations seriously and believed they should be public.

Under pressure from other Democratic senators, who had been fighting a pitched battle against Judge Kavanaugh for weeks - largely over access to documents from his years in the George W. Bush White House - Ms. Feinstein called a meeting late Wednesday to share with the lawmakers the letter's contents but not the letter itself. The woman has not gone public but Sen.

Govt will meet all fiscal targets, Arun Jaitley says after review
He said that the government will achieve higher growth rate more than what was projected in the previous budget meeting. The government has collected Rs 92.19 billion from disinvestment receipt against the target of Rs 800 billion for FY19.

The swift pushback comes after the committee's top Democrat, Dianne Feinstein of California, notified federal investigators about information she received on the nominee.

The allegation came just one week before the Senate Judiciary Committee is to vote on his nomination.

Kavanaugh's nomination has divided the Senate, and the new information complicates the process, especially as key Republican senators, including Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, are under enormous pressure from outside groups seeking to sway their votes on grounds that a Justice Kavanaugh might vote to undercut the Roe v. Wade ruling. The call was already scheduled before the allegation emerged and Collins' office declined to provide any details about their discussion.

The Judiciary Committee, which has finished confirmation hearings for Kavanagh, still plans to vote next Thursday on whether to recommend that he be confirmed by the full Senate, a spokesman said.
