The UK's GCHQ said in a statement to Reuters over the weekend that it is "aware of the media reports" but has "no reason to doubt the detailed assessments made by AWS and Apple" at this stage. Apple denied the report, and said that Bloomberg is confusing an event that took place in 2016 when the company found an infected driver on a single Super Micro server in one of its labs. But the three companies featured in the story-Apple, Amazon, and Supermicro-have all issued broad and strongly worded denials.

Apple's Vice President for Information Security George Stathakopoulos wrote a letter to the House and Senate commerce committees that the company's security systems, which monitor for the type of malicious activity purported, had found nothing.

Apple denies that any of its data centers were affected by Chinese spies.

Apple has also supplied a letter to US Congress at this point, stating that no evidence was found to support claims of tampered motherboards.

A nothing burger or the year's biggest tech story? "We never alerted the FBI to any security concerns like those described in the article, nor has the FBI ever contacted us about such an investigation".

The second half saw the French midfielder play one of his best matches of the season, before Alexis Sanchez claimed a dramatic late victor .

Apple and Amazon, two companies identified as victims of the hack, refuted Bloomberg's claims in statements on their websites.

The department of homeland security in the United States said it was "aware of the media reports of a technology supply chain compromise" which alleged that dozens of firms had been compromised by the secret spy chip inserted during the manufacturing process. "Nothing was ever found". The British organization said that it also had "no reason to doubt" the refutations.

The strong denials from companies involved, as well as government agencies, has led to speculation whether the original Bloomberg report was planted or otherwise inaccurate, or if it was quietly covered up in some manner on national security grounds.

The chips, which included code that forces products to accept changes to their software and to connect to outside computers, were allegedly shipped to the U.S.to give Beijing secret access to American internal networks. But it remains unclear whether this was a photograph of an actual board or a digital recreation.
