This was Swift's first awards show performance in nearly three years - and the first of her Reputation era - and she definitely came back with a bang.

Swift's performance at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater marked her return to an awards show stage slot after a three-year absence.

Swift told iHeart Radio ahead of the release of Reputation that "I Did Something Bad" came to her in a dream, and that it includes paired-down pitch effects that create a unique tone at the chorus' end.

She explained that she was not only grateful for her fans, but also for the friends and family who stuck by her even when many mentions of her in the press were negative. "Get out and vote", Swift said when accepting her trophy.

Referring to the fact the awards were "voted for by the people", Swift said: "You know what else is voted on by the people?", before telling fans to "get out and vote" at the midterm elections. If you believe in equality for women, for people of colour, for the LGBTQ community.

Swift has already been in the limelight this week after a surprise Instagram post on Sunday in which she broke her long silence on politics and encouraged her more than 112 million followers on the platform to register to vote.

Umpire labels Kyrgios' effort 'borderline'
The Aussie looked solid in the opening set as Klahn - ranked 104 in the world - didn't look overly threatening to Kyrgios' charge. Kyrgios appeared exasperated and distracted at times as American qualifier Bradley Klahn took out the match in three sets.

The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer's post, however, may have spurred a spike in voter registration. On Sunday, Swift provoked a storm by breaking her silence on politics and announcing she would vote for two Democrats in Tennessee in the USA congressional midterm elections in November.

The message to her 112 million followers, which has been liked nearly two million times, broke a long-standing refusal to discuss her political opinions.

Swift opened up during one of her acceptance speeches, revealing she was already working on new work. She also won Artist of the Year for the fourth time, taking her total to 23 and making her the female artist with the most AMA wins, tying with Alabama for second overall.

Jennifer Lopez debuted her new song "Limitless" from her upcoming film Second Act. "Thank you guys so much".

In the song, she sang: 'If a man talks shit, then I owe him nothing / I don't regret it one bit, 'cause he had it coming'.
