The Hatfield champion was due to face the American at TD Gardens in Boston on October 20 but those plans were thrown out of the window after Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (MSAC), who were due to sanction the fight, voted against granting him a licence.

Saunders was notified September 27 by Britain's Voluntary Anti-Doping Association that he had tested positive for Oxilofrine, a stimulant that can help a person with endurance.

Frank Warren has insisted the results were due to Saunders taking a nasal spray.

Billy Joe Saunders will have the opportunity to convince the WBO not to strip him of his middleweight title.

So it looks like the show will go on with Andrade facing WBO #2 rated Walter Kautondokwa (17-0, 16 KOs) for the vacant interim title and if Saunders is stripped the victor would get the full belt.

He could be stripped of the belt he won from Andy Lee in 2015 if he fails to get a licence for his scheduled title defence on 20 October.

Instead, the 29-year-old former Olympian will lose out on a seven-figure payday and the show will proceed as Andrade will face Walter Kautondokwa for the organisation's vacant interim title at 160lbs. He then has the right to appeal any decision before the Grievances Committee according to Rule 34 of the WBO Rules and Regulations.

It has been a tough year for Saunders who has already had two fights cancelled this year.

In the same month Saunders was fined £100,000 and given a severe reprimand by the British Boxing Board of Control following a misconduct hearing regarding his role in an online video that was described by police as "sickening".
