The reports say that UEFA alerted the French national finance prosecutor about the incident prior to the game, but the allegations were not made public and only UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and a few of his closest associates were aware of the investigation.

A senior official from the Serbian club is suspected to have bet large sums of money on Red Star losing by a five-goal margin, according to a report from French sports newspaper L'Equipe.

French authorities are investigating claims that a Red Star Belgrade official tried to fix the Serbian giants' 6-1 Champions League Group C loss away at Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

"The club reaffirms its profound attachment to the fundamental principle of sport, which is and always will be the integrity of its competitions".

Red Star deputy spokesman Nebojsa Todorovic told Agence France Presse that he "cannot in any way comment on this", while Milan Vukovic, the spokesman for Serbia's football association, was unavailable for comment.

"Scandalised and disgusted, Red Star Belgrade rejects suspicions concerning the PSG-Red Star game and the implication of anyone from the club in any untoward dealings", they said in a statement.

"UEFA only communicates on specific cases/matches once disciplinary proceedings have been opened and/or decisions have been taken".

Shortly thereafter, Neymar, completing his hat-trick for the night, scored a free-kick to restore the 5-goal difference and give PSG their 6-1 win.

Former Germany worldwide Marko Marin scored for Red Star.
