On Saturday, the New York Knicks finally severed ties with Joakim Noah, announcing they have waived the former All-Star after two astoundingly disappointing seasons. Almost everyone predicted that the Knicks giving an injury-prone Noah a four-year, $72M deal when he was already 31 years old would be a mistake.

The pair of ESPN reporters also indicated that Noah would get waived sometime on Saturday, and soon after that report hit Twitter, Diamond Leung of The Athletic reported that Noah had, indeed, been waived.

In the two seasons since, Noah has played in only 53 games with the Knicks, posting averages of 4.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Amazon abandons sexist AI-powered recruiting tool
The team, set up in Amazon's Edinburgh engineering hub, created 500 models concentrated on detailed job functions and locations. It would favor candidates that used language found on male candidate's resumes like "executed" and "captured".

It was a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't be part of the 2018-19 roster, but the team wanted to trade him or reach an agreement on an buyout.

By using the stretch provision, the Knicks will add about $13 million in cap space to sign free agents next summer, according to the newspaper. The bad effect is that they'll be paying Noah $6.4 million annually until 2022.

Noah hadn't been with the team since clashing with former coach Jeff Hornacek last season. He won Defensive Player of the Year in 2013-14.
