Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya has been charged by the International Cricket Council with two breaches of its anti-corruption code.

He is also charged with obstructing the investigation by "concealing, tampering with or destroying evidence".

Jayasuriya was a star of the Sri Lanka team that won the Cricket World Cup in 1996 during a playing career that spanned 22 years and took in 110 tests and 445 one-day internationals.

The action against Jayasuriya, announced on Monday by the ICC, is only part of a wide-ranging series of investigations into Sri Lanka cricket with others individuals also likely to face charges in the coming weeks.

It recently said Alex Marshall, general manager of the anti-corruption unit, was overseeing a probe into potential corrupt practices over "serious allegations" in Sri Lanka. "The enquiries are continuing so it would not be appropriate to comment further, but I can confirm that we have, at their request, provided a detailed briefing to the Sri Lankan President, Prime Minister and Sports Minister".

'OK to be white': Australian government senators condemn 'anti-white racism'
Pauline Hanson on Monday brought forward the motion, which also declared "anti-white" racism was on the rise in Australia. One of those who opposed the bill, Justice Party Senator Derryn Hinch, called it a "headline-grabbing stunt".

The documentary revealed how fixers rigged two Test matches between Sri Lanka and India in July a year ago and Sri Lanka versus Australia in August 2016.

The news has rocked Sri Lanka, who are now hosting a one-day series against England, the top-ranked team in the world.

Four of his 28 ODI hundreds came against England, including a brutal 152 off 99 balls at Headingley in 2006.

Jayasuriya, who was Sri Lanka captain from 1999-2003, amassed 6973 runs at an average of just over 40 in tests.
