Netflix will carry the show in most markets outside the U.K. Dracula marks another collaboration between Moffat and Gatiss after they combined efforts on episodes on Hartswood-produced Sherlock.

Variety is reporting that Netflix and the BBC are joining forces for a new spin on Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Sherlock creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis have agreed a deal with BBC and Netflix to take on a story about another literary icon: Dracula.

Dracula's story has been adapted countless times since Stoker's book set a new standard for Gothic horror well over a century ago. The limited series will consist of three feature-length episodes that will reintroduce the world to Dracula, the vile vampire who "made evil sexy", according to the release.

Added Larry Tanz, vp content acquisition at Netflix, also added: "We can't wait to bring Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' brilliant storytelling to our members around the world and we are eager to collaborate on yet another series with the BBC".

That forefather - or foremother - could have been between six and 10 generations ago, according to Carlos D. Bustamante, a Stanford University professor who analyzed the results.

The drama is set in 1897, with the blood-drinking count in Transylvania drawing up his plans against Victorian London. In their talented hands the fans will experience the power of Bram Stoker's creation as if completely anew.

Gatiss and Moffat's Dracula follows after NBCUniversal's British-based production subsidiary Carnival Films developed the 2013 series Dracula, which starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the lead role, Jessica De Gouw as Mina Murray, and Thomas Kretschmann as Abraham Van Helsing.

Wenger and Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore Dracula commissioned the series, which is written and created by Moffat and Gatiss.

Could their own Sherlock, Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch, have an opening in his busy schedule for another updated reimagining of a classic fictional character?

There hasn't been an iconic Dracula on TV, however.
